Here she tells VOC about one of her favourite treats – rose. From yummy granola and soothing tea to facial toner, here are Victoria’s 3 easy ways to enjoy rose.
I love using rose! From adding a few drops of rose oil to my yoga mat, to scattering rose petals over my desserts, I even occasionally add petals to the bath tub! There is something about using rose that instantly makes me feel warm, comforted, and content. If I am experiencing any sense of anxiety, insecurity or self-doubt, rose brings me back to my centre, my femininity, my strength. It’s a way of making me feel indulgent without cracking open the Milk Tray!!
Here are 3 easy ways to enjoy rose.
Rose and Matcha Granola
½ cup tahini
⅓ cup maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla pods or powder
½ tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp matcha
¼ tsp sea salt
2 cups oats
1 cup pistachios
Rose petals (dried)
Preheat oven to 180C.
In a large bowl, combine maple syrup, sea salt, vanilla, cinnamon, matcha and tahini and stir well.
Stir in oats and pistachios.
Spread out thinly and evenly onto a lined baking sheet, pressing the mixture together.
Bake for 10-15 minutes, then remove from oven to flip and bake for another 5-10 minutes.
Make sure you shake and stir granola a little in between baking.
Allow granola to cool, then toss with dried rose petals.
Enjoy your luxury rose granola with chia porridge or yoghurt. Yum!
Rose Water As a Skin Toner
This hugely versatile preparation can also be used as a face wash, eye wash, mouthwash, antimicrobial gargle and sunburn soother.
- A cereal bowl of fresh rose petals or 2 tsp of dried
- 500ml hot filtered water
Crush your rose petals before adding them to hot water. Brew for 5-15 minutes. Simply strain and allow the mixture to cool. Voila.
As with the rose water you can allow the rose petals to steep for 5 minutes and then strain and drink immediately.
Fresh or dried petals can be used but ensure they are pesticide free. Don’t be tempted to use your Valentine’s Day flowers unless you know they came from an organic source and are safe for consumption.
